Scott Stover is a Franco-American philanthropy advisor and cultural strategist celebrated for pioneering a progressive model of venture philanthropy that foregrounds sustainability, long-term impact, and systemic change in the arts. Born in Chicago, he holds an A.B. and an M.B.A. from Columbia University, and pursued further studies in semiology and art history at the École Pratique des Hautes Études in Paris.

Stover began his career in international investment banking, leading major financing initiatives across Europe and Africa. In 2005, he founded Global Art Development—now known as Scott Stover Inc.—a consultancy based in Los Angeles that partners with museums, collectors, foundations, and artists to develop mission-driven cultural projects with sound financial frameworks.

He is credited with revitalising the Centre Pompidou Foundation in 2005, setting a precedent for cross-border cultural philanthropy. More recently, he has played a key role in the Cahiers d’Art Institute, where he is advancing the use of blockchain technology for digital catalogues raisonnés.

Stover also hosts the podcast Giving Back Is Dead, which explores how philanthropy is evolving to meet the values of new generations. For his contributions to French culture, he was named Chevalier de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres in 2013.

In this episode of the Pearl Lam Podcast, host Pearl Lam is joined by her longtime friend, Scott Stover, for an insightful discussion about his remarkable journey from the finance sector to the art world. Scott reflects on his early years in Paris, which significantly influenced his career trajectory, his start in banking, and his transition from managing Special Situations in Europe to founding the American Friends of the Centre Pompidou.

They explore the business strategies Scott implemented in nonprofit ventures, the role of sustainability in cultural institutions, and the personal and professional values that continue to guide his work.

Scott shares his experience in building a lasting connection between American philanthropists and one of France’s most esteemed museums, highlighting both the achievements and challenges along the way.
