Mei Chen is the General Manager, Head of Luxury and Fashion for the Globalisation Business at Alibaba Group. She joined Alibaba in 2015 as an early member of the Globalisation team, where she led the company’s expansion into international markets and played a key role in shaping Alibaba’s strategy in Europe. More recently, Mei has been instrumental in the creation of Alibaba Group’s ecommerce luxury offering, partnering with leading luxury and fashion houses. Mei also oversees international operations for Alibaba’s flagship fashion and luxury events, including Tmall Collection, the Taobao Maker Festival’s West Lake show, and Tmall China Cool.
Mei works closely with executives from global luxury and fashion brands, helping them navigate the Chinese consumer market and capitalise on the vast opportunities it offers. She leads various projects within Alibaba’s ecosystem, assisting brands in leveraging the company’s innovative technologies.
In addition to her corporate responsibilities, Mei actively advises and supports SMEs and serves on the boards of several companies. Her entrepreneurial journey began over 18 years ago in Spain, where she founded startups in diverse sectors, including education, construction, and online marketing. Passionate about mentorship, Mei dedicates her spare time to coaching and empowering female students and executives.
Mei holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business Management and Finance from Carlos III University of Madrid, with further studies at HEC Paris and Harvard Business School. She is also a guest lecturer at INSEAD, London Business School, and HEC Paris.
